The Veljusa Cross traces its origins to the Veljusa Monastery near Strumica, built in the 11th century by Bishop Manuel. This distinctive cross was discovered carved into the stone wall of the monastery’s church — the Church of the Holy Mother of God Eleusa (the Merciful).
